Johnny Be Good (1988) is an American comedy film directed by Bud S. Smith. Johnny Walker, a student at unreal Ashcroft High School, is the number one high school quarterback in the country and is being heavily recruited by numerous colleges. His close friend, Leo Wiggins, encourages him to wait for the perfect deal, while his girlfriend, Georgia, wants him to join her at State University for a solid education. The various universities offer him an array of tempting perks such as beautiful girls, luxury vehicles, cash incentives, free living arrangements, and more. In fact, one college even buys Leo a car and another offers to provide him with male companions if he is not interested in women.
Coach Wayne Hisler, whom Johnny despises, has gone behind his back to make a deal with one of the interested colleges. If Johnny agrees to their scholarship offer, the coach will become their new head coach. While Johnny possesses all the necessary qualities to excel as a quarterback, he is uncertain about his next move. The offers, praise, and attention are tempting, causing him to lose sight of good decision-making. As a result, Johnny’s ego grows and annoys his family. When he returns home in flashy attire, his mother reminds him not to lose focus on what truly matters. On a visit to State University, Johnny asks their head coach what they can do for him in order to persuade him to sign with their team.
