Johnny English Strikes Again (2018)

In 2018, director David Kerr brought us Johnny English Strikes Again (2018), a spy action comedy that sees the return of MI7’s older and retired agents due to a cyber attack. Among them is Johnny English, now working as a geography teacher who secretly trains his students in espionage. With the other inactive agents out of commission, English is left to embark on the mission himself. He enlists the help of his former sidekick and MI7 clerk, Angus Bough, and together they gather their equipment – which includes explosive jelly babies and a tracker cleverly disguised as a Sherbet Fountain. Leaving behind their cell phones, they set off in an old Aston Martin to investigate the origin of the cyber attack at the Hotel Magnifique in Antibes, France. Posing as waiters, they manage to acquire a photo of their next target – the Dot Calm yacht – before accidentally setting the restaurant on fire. Sneaking onto the yacht, they are quickly caught by Russian operative Ophelia Bhuletova but make a daring escape after discovering numerous computer servers onboard.

While pursuing Bhuletova’s electric BMW through the countryside, English and Bough eventually run out of fuel. She arranges to meet them at the Hotel de Paris in Cagnes-sur-Mer. Despite Bough’s discovery that she is a spy, English refuses to believe his suspicions. That night, she attempts to kill him in his room but fails when a sleepless English accidentally takes energy pills instead of sleeping pills and leaves to attend a party. As a result of further cyber attacks, the Prime Minister is forced to make an agreement with Silicon Valley billionaire Jason Volta, which will be revealed at an upcoming G12 meeting. Volta happens to own the Dot Calm and with suspicion pointing towards him as the culprit behind the attacks, English and Bough head back home. In order to gather evidence against Volta, they must infiltrate his mansion.
