Johnny Skidmarks (1998)

The mystery thriller film Johnny Skidmarks (1998) was directed by John Raffo. The main character, Johnny Scardino, is a crime scene photographer who regularly works with police detectives Larry Skovik and Woody Warshawski. Due to the nature of his job, he is often called ‘Johnny Skidmarks’ by the detectives. To cope with the horrors he sees, Johnny has built a wall of detachment around himself, which has only been reinforced by the recent death of his wife Ruth. He leads a solitary life, with his only companions being Ruth’s brother Jerry, who is always in need of attention and conversation, and their pet hamster. In secret, Johnny has become involved in a blackmail scheme run by private investigator Walter Lippinscott. His role is to take incriminating photos of the victims.
Similar to his work as a police officer, Johnny keeps a distance emotionally from his job, often disregarding the victims of the blackmail scheme he is investigating, despite photographing them. At a crime scene for a traffic accident involving multiple vehicles, he notices that one of the casualties is also involved in the blackmail operation. What initially seems like a coincidence triggers Johnny’s suspicion of a larger plot targeting those involved in the scheme. This belief intensifies when Larry informs him that the accident was not actually an accident and when another member of the blackmail team is found dead after being tortured. Fearing for his safety, Johnny must uncover the truth before becoming the next victim.
