Joseph: King of Dreams(2000) is an American direct-to-video animated biblical musical drama film. The only one of its kind to be produced by DreamWorks Animation. Joseph, the youngest of Jacob’s eleven sons, was considered a ‘miracle child’ due to his mother Rachel’s supposed infertility. He becomes conceited from his father’s special treatment, much to the resentment of his older half-brothers who long for acceptance. After having a dream about wolves attacking their flock, Joseph’s second dream depicts his brothers bowing down to him. Upon sharing this with them, they conspire against him – led by Judah – and sell him to a slave trader while deceiving their parents into believing he was killed by wolves through his torn coat.
In Egypt, after the men sing out his arrival, Joseph is bought by Potiphar, the captain of Pharaoh’s guards. He becomes Potiphar’s most trusted attendant and befriends his beautiful niece Asenath. However, Zuleika, Potiphar’s wife, attempts to seduce Joseph but he refuses. Enraged, she falsely accuses him of making advances on her. Potiphar nearly has him executed but Zuleika stops him due to feeling guilty. Even though Potiphar knows Joseph is innocent, he reluctantly throws him in prison to protect his reputation. In prison, Joseph meets the Pharaoh’s cupbearer and baker and interprets their dreams. Their dreams reveal that one will be put to death and the other will return to his position at the palace.
