Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012) is an American science fantasy action-adventure film directed by Brad Peyton. Four years have passed since Sean Anderson’s previous adventure in the center of the earth. Now 17 years old, Sean gets into trouble with the police after attempting to access a satellite control center. He believes that his missing grandfather, Alexander Anderson, may have sent a coded signal and he wants to investigate further. Seeking to connect with Sean, his stepfather Hank Parsons helps decipher the code using three books: Treasure Island, Gulliver’s Travels, and Jules Verne’s Mysterious Island. By combining the maps from these books, Hank determines the location of a mysterious island. He uses a backlight to reveal the coordinates and convinces Sean’s mother Liz to allow them to visit this island in order to prove it doesn’t actually exist.
Reluctantly, Hank hires Gabato and his daughter Kailani in Palau as their helicopter tourism guide. They are the only ones willing to take them to the coordinates they need to reach. However, during their flight, they encounter a cyclone which causes their helicopter to crash into the Pacific. When they wake up on the island, they are surprised to find miniature elephants that are actually a prehistoric species known as Dwarf sicilian elephants. They also discover giant butterflies, creating an opposite effect in terms of animal sizes. While exploring further inland, they stumble upon a clutch of eggs and unfortunately, Gabato accidentally wakes up a giant frilled lizard. This leads to a chaotic chase through the jungle where they almost become its prey but thankfully, Alexander intervenes and saves them.
