Jumanji: The Next Level (2019)

The American fantasy adventure comedy film, Jumanji: The Next Level (2019), was directed by Jake Kasdan. Along with co-writers Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, Kasdan masterfully crafted a story that follows Spencer Gilpin, Anthony ‘Fridge’ Johnson, Martha Kaply, and Bethany Walker. The group reunites over Christmas break after being away from each other during their first semester of college. However, not everything is as it seems for Spencer, who feels overshadowed by his friends’ exciting lives. In search of the thrill he felt as his avatar in Jumanji, Dr. Smolder Bravestone, Spencer enters the game once again. When he fails to show up as planned at his house, his concerned friends discover that he has once again been pulled into Jumanji. Determined to rescue him before it’s too late, they also find themselves trapped in the game alongside Spencer’s grandfather Eddie and his estranged friend Milo. Left behind in the real world, Bethany enlists the help of Alex Vreeke – a former Jumanji player they previously rescued after being stuck in the game for twenty years.

Martha once again transforms into Ruby Roundhouse, while Fridge is now Professor Sheldon Oberon and Eddie and Milo take on the roles of Dr. Smolder Bravestone and Franklin ‘Mouse’ Finbar, respectively. Surprisingly, the gameplay has changed as well – this time, the group must tackle a new mission: Jumanji is suffering from a drought. They can only escape the game by retrieving the stolen Falcon Heart necklace from warlord Jurgen the Brutal. Along their journey, they reunite with Spencer who now goes by the name of Ming Fleetfoot – an agile female thief. However, adjusting to their new avatars proves to be a challenge for the group. Milo’s slower communication skills hinder their progress and Eddie’s reckless behavior costs them multiple lives.
