Jungle Cruise (2021)
Jungle Cruise (2021) is an American fantasy adventure film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by Glenn Ficarra, John Requa, and Michael Green. The inspiration for the film comes from Walt Disney’s popular theme park attraction. In 1556, Spanish conquistadors led by Don Aguirre embark on a journey to South America in search of the legendary Lágrimas de Cristal Tree. This tree is believed to cure illness, heal injuries, break curses, and possibly heal Aguirre’s sick daughter. Despite losing many men along the way, the surviving conquistadors are healed by the Puka Michuna tribe using the Tree’s flowers. However, when they demand information on the Tree’s location, the tribal chief refuses and is ultimately killed by Aguirre. As he dies, he curses the conquistadors with immortality and a curse that prevents them from leaving sight of the Amazon River without being pulled back into its depths by the jungle itself.
Rather than trusting the others, Lily opts to take matters into her own hands. She manages to evade Prince Joachim, who shares the same desire as her to locate the Tree in Brazil for his country, Germany. In need of a guide for their journey along the Amazon River, Lily and MacGregor seek out skipper Frank Wolff. Despite initially rejecting their request due to the perils of the river and jungle, he changes his mind upon seeing an arrowhead in their possession. However, Frank is later forced to retrieve his boat’s engine and they narrowly escape from Joachim’s submarine. During their stay in Frank’s cabin, Lily uncovers some information regarding the Tears of the Moon. Despite voicing her suspicions that he may be after the Tree as well, Frank maintains that he has given up on that pursuit long ago. As they are captured by a tribe pretending to be cannibals – but are actually just hired by Frank – Lily becomes even more wary of him and sets off on her own mission to find the Tree. Thankfully, with help from Trader Sam, the tribal chief who translates symbols on the arrowhead, they are able to uncover both its location and its blooming pattern under a blood moon.
