Juno (2007)
Juno (2007) is a comedy-drama film directed by Jason Reitman and written by Diablo Cody. In Elk River, Minnesota, the sixteen year old high-schooler discovers she is pregnant by her friend and longtime admirer Paulie Bleeker. She initially considers an abortion, but then decides to visit a local women’s clinic where she encounters a schoolmate protesting against abortion. After discussing her options with the clinic staff, Juno ultimately chooses to give the baby up for adoption. With the help of her friend Leah, she searches for potential adoptive parents in the Pennysaver and eventually finds a childless married couple who seem like a good fit. She confides in her father Mac and stepmother Bren, who are supportive of her decision. Together with Mac, Juno meets with Mark and Vanessa Loring at their luxurious home in Saint Cloud and agrees to a closed adoption arrangement.
Juno makes a few visits to Mark’s house and discovers that they both enjoy punk rock and horror movies. Despite Mark leaving his rock band days behind and only having a designated room for his personal items due to Vanessa’s rules, he now works from home creating commercial jingles. While out at a shopping mall with Leah, Juno spots Vanessa interacting effortlessly with a child. In an attempt to create a bond between Vanessa and the baby in her womb, Juno encourages her to talk to the baby, which causes it to kick in response. However, as the pregnancy progresses, Juno becomes conflicted about her feelings towards the baby’s father Paulie. Although Juno maintains an indifferent facade towards Paulie, she can’t help but feel jealous when she discovers he has asked another girl to prom and confronts him in a fit of rage.
