Just Like Heaven (2005)
The American romantic comedy fantasy-adventure film, Just Like Heaven (2005), directed by Mark Waters, follows the story of Elizabeth Masterson and David Abbott. Elizabeth is a dedicated emergency room physician in San Francisco who gets into a car accident on her way to a blind date set up by her sister. Three months later, David, a landscape architect seeking a fresh start after his wife’s passing, moves into Elizabeth’s apartment as a sublet. To their surprise, Elizabeth starts appearing in the apartment, causing confusion for both of them. She believes David is an intruder while he thinks she broke in. They soon realize that Elizabeth has the ability to pass through walls and objects.
Despite not knowing who she is and insisting she is not dead, David attempts to have her spirit exorcised without success. As only he can see and hear her, others believe he is hallucinating and talking to himself. Elizabeth turns to David for help in discovering her true identity, but even after speaking with the neighbors who did not know her, they are no closer to finding answers. David turns to Darryl, a psychic bookstore clerk, for assistance. Darryl reveals that Elizabeth is not truly deceased and advises David to release his emotional attachment to his past love. However, when Elizabeth suggests he move on from being dumped, David abruptly exits. Darryl scolds her for speaking disrespectfully of the deceased. Later, David opens up to Elizabeth about his wife’s passing.
