Just Shoot Me! (1997–2003) is an American sitcom television series that originally ran on NBC from March 4, 1997 to November 26, 2003. The show, created by Steven Levitan, is set in the office of a fictional fashion magazine called Blush. Over seven seasons and a total of 145 half-hour episodes (including three episodes rebroadcasted), the show follows the stories of the staff members at Blush. This includes Jack Gallo, the owner and publisher; his daughter Maya, a writer; secretary Finch; former model Nina; and photographer Elliot. Hot-tempered journalist Maya Gallo finds herself in a desperate situation after getting fired from another job for making an anchorwoman cry on live television with some ill-timed copy. With no other job prospects and facing eviction, she reluctantly turns to working at Blush – her father’s fashion magazine. As expected, tensions arise between her and colleagues like high-strung ex-model Nina van Horn, philandering photographer Elliot, and wise-guy secretary Dennis Finch.

In its early days, Just Shoot Me! was a highly successful show, consistently winning its time slot. After its initial six-episode season in March 1997, the show was renewed for a 13-episode second season and aired at 9:30 p.m. following Frasier. Eventually, it was moved to Thursdays between Friends and Seinfeld. Demand for the show only grew as it earned a full season order after just two airings. When Seinfeld ended in 1998, viewers speculated that Just Shoot Me! could fill the coveted 9:00 p.m. Thursday spot; however, Frasier ultimately landed that spot while Just Shoot Me! took over Frasier’s Tuesday night schedule at 9:00 p.m. Although the show was consistently popular with viewers, it never had a set time slot during its run on NBC and was often switched around on the network’s schedule. Even so, it maintained high ratings – in fact, during its fourth season, it was NBC’s top-rated Tuesday night program with an average rating/share of 6.1/16 among viewers aged 18-49.
