The American animated TV show Justice League (2001–2004) aired on Cartoon Network from November 17, 2001, to May 29, 2004, and was produced by Warner Bros. Animation. It is based on characters from DC Comics’ Justice League of America and serves as both a sequel to Batman: The Animated Series and Superman: The Animated Series, as well as a prequel to Batman Beyond. The show is the seventh in the DC Animated Universe. While most characters remained true to their comic book origins, there were some changes. For example, in the premiere story arc ‘Secret Origins’, Diana competes against her fellow Amazons for the title of ambassador of peace to man’s world. She is also portrayed as a rookie superhero during her first interactions with the League, and subsequent episodes explore her attempts to adjust to this new world. In an interview on the Season One DVD, Bruce Timm revealed that he faced legal issues in including Wonder Woman in the series but was determined to feature her. Additionally, The Flash’s character was given a youthful and bold persona, similar to Wally West’s in the comics, providing comedic relief within the JLA.
The battle against evil, chaos and destruction awaits. Even revered protectors such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash, Hawkgirl and the Martian Manhunter may not stand a chance individually. However, united as the Justice League, they form an unstoppable metahuman force and a beacon of hope. Together they embody moral purity; separately they are formidable forces. This dream team consisting of Batman, Superman,Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Hawk Girl and Martian Manhunter tirelessly works to save the world from its most treacherous criminals, cosmic threats and corrupt influences one day at a time.
