Keith (2008)
Keith (2008), an American independent drama film directed by Blue’s Clues co-creator Todd Kessler, follows the story of Natalie, a determined student aiming for a tennis scholarship at Duke University. Along with her classmates, she often visits The Brick, an outdoor party spot. It is here that she meets Rafael, a new transfer student with whom she forms a strong connection. In chemistry class, Natalie is paired with Keith – a carefree and rebellious boy whose lifestyle differs greatly from hers. After asking for his help on a lab report, he takes her on an impromptu adventure to an office building. Despite starting a relationship with Rafael, Keith continues to ask Natalie out on ‘non-dates’, emphasizing their friendship over anything romantic.
Over time, Keith and Natalie’s relationship deepens, going on casual outings together. This begins to cause Rafael to feel envious. One evening, during a disagreement between Keith and Natalie, Al and a boy named Billy arrive unexpectedly. It’s unclear what the dynamic is between Al and Billy. Keith’s kind gesture towards Billy leads Natalie to view him as someone who has a soft side. Eventually, they take a drive and end up at The Brick lookout – a place that holds special significance for Keith. As they talk, they share a kiss. The next day, while back at the cliff, they discuss their aspirations for the future. While lying down in the truck bed, Natalie notices it starting to move. In a panic, she urges Keith to jump out for safety. However, Keith remains calm and continues talking without any concern for their movements.
