Kidding (2018 — 2020)
Kidding (2018–2020) is an American comedy-drama television series that aired on Showtime in 2018. Created by Dave Holstein, the series stars Jim Carrey, Frank Langella, Judy Greer, Cole Allen, Juliet Morris, and Catherine Keener. Executive producer Michel Gondry also directed multiple episodes. After its initial release, the series was renewed for a second season in October of 2018 and premiered in February of 2020. Unfortunately, in July of 2020, it was announced that Kidding would not be returning for a third season. The show’s setting is Columbus, Ohio and follows the story of Jeff Piccirillo (also known as Mr. Pickles), a beloved children’s television host who has gained popularity with both kids and parents. Despite his success as the face of a multi-million dollar branding empire, Jeff must navigate personal tragedy and difficult family dynamics.
After Philip’s death, Jeff Piccirillo makes an appearance on Conan where he performs one of his famous songs. While visiting the set of his TV show Mr. Pickles’ Puppet Time, Jeff suggests to Seb, the producer and his father, that they do an episode on death, but Seb quickly rejects the idea. Later, Jeff returns to his old home which he used to share with his now estranged wife Jill and their surviving son Will. Back at the studio, Jeff brings up his idea for a death-themed episode once again and this time Seb agrees. Meanwhile, Jeff’s sister Dierdre goes home and tries to persuade her daughter Maddy to eat her vegetables. Maddy finally gives in after revealing that she saw her father Scott engaging in a sexual encounter in the front yard earlier that day. The following day, Jeff eagerly turns on the show only to discover that their planned episode on death has been replaced. Seb confirms this news in a phone call and reminds him not to ruin his reputation as Jeff defiantly shaves part of his head. Feeling frustrated, Jeff decides to buy the house next door to his former residence where he catches sight of his wife with another man in the kitchen.
