Quentin Tarantino wrote and directed the American martial arts film, Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003). The leading role of the Bride is played by Uma Thurman, seeking vengeance against Bill and his squad of assassins who attempted to end her life and that of her unborn child. In 1999, the former Deadly Vipers member was preparing for her wedding at a chapel in El Paso, Texas when she was unexpectedly attacked by Bill and his team. Despite being shot and left wounded, she musters the strength to reveal that Bill is the father of her unborn child before losing consciousness. While in a coma at the hospital, Elle Driver from the Deadly Vipers plans to administer a lethal injection to finish her off. However, Bill intervenes at the last minute, recognizing it as dishonorable to kill someone who cannot defend themselves.
After awakening from her coma, the Bride is devastated to find that she is no longer pregnant. Her rage intensifies when she discovers that a man had been planning to rape her and a hospital worker had been exploiting her body during her unconscious state. Taking matters into her own hands, the Bride insists on seeking revenge against Bill and the rest of the Deadly Vipers. She first confronts former Viper Vernita Green at her suburban home but their knife fight is cut short when Vernita’s young daughter unexpectedly arrives. As Vernita attempts to shoot the Bride with a hidden pistol, the Bride responds with a well-aimed knife throw, resulting in Vernita’s demise.
