Despite being shot in the head by Bill, the Bride survives and vows to get even. Four years later, she has already taken down two members of the Deadly Vipers – O-Ren Ishii and Vernita Green – and heads to Bill’s brother Budd’s trailer with plans to surprise him. However, Budd is already aware of her intentions due to a warning from his brother and uses rock salt and sedatives to subdue her.
He contacts Elle Driver, another former Deadly Viper, and arranges to sell her the Bride’s unique sword for a hefty price of $1 million. In a flashback from years back, Bill informs the young Bride about the renowned martial arts master Pai Mei and his infamous Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique. This deadly move is known to be withheld from Pai’s students, as it guarantees death for its victim after taking only five steps. To learn this technique, Bill takes the Bride to Pai’s temple for training. Despite Pai’s harsh treatment and taunting during her training, the Bride eventually earns his respect. Fast forward to the present, the Bride utilizes her newfound skills taught by Pai to escape from the coffin and claw her way out to safety.
