King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017)
Guy Ritchie directed the epic fantasy action-adventure film, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017). Co-written by Joby Harold and Lionel Wigram from a story by Harold and David Dobkin, the film draws inspiration from Arthurian legends. During the story, Mordred, an iron-fisted warlock, leads his armies in a siege on Camelot with the goal of establishing magic-wielding magicians as dominant over humans. Uther Pendragon, king of the Britons, manages to infiltrate Mordred’s lair and successfully beheads him, saving Camelot. However, Uther’s treacherous younger brother Vortigern desires the throne and orchestrates a coup by sacrificing his wife Elsa to moat hags and transforming into a demon knight.
In this form, he kills Uther’s wife Igraine and defeats Uther in battle. The sole survivor of this tragedy is Arthur, who ends up drifting away in a boat and eventually reaching Londinium. In Londinium’s hazardous and grimy alleys, the orphaned warrior and sole heir of Uther Pendragon, Arthur, is completely unaware of his rightful status as England’s ruler. After almost twenty years since his treacherous uncle Vortigern seized the throne, Arthur alone possesses the strength to withdraw Excalibur from its enchanted stone. Yet, Vortigern will not rest until he is able to unmask and hinder him. Will this malevolent dictator be able to obstruct Arthur’s ultimate fate?
