Kinsey (2004) is a biographical drama film written and directed by Bill Condon, exploring the life of Alfred Charles Kinsey, a pioneer in the field of sexology. The movie follows Professor Kinsey as he discusses his sexual history, while also delving into flashbacks from his childhood and young adulthood. These flashbacks show the strict views of his father, a lay minister who believed modern inventions led to sin, and how this affected Kinsey’s upbringing. As a teenager, he faced humiliation for being exposed to cigarettes and later disappoints his father with his chosen career path. The adult Kinsey becomes a professor at Indiana University, where he lectures on gall wasps and teaches biology.

Kinsey, a university professor known as ‘Prok’ by his graduate students, falls in love with one of his students named Mac and they eventually get married. Initially, their marriage is hindered by a minor medical issue that Mac has which is easily resolved with surgery. In his free time, Kinsey meets individually with his graduate students to provide them with sexual advice. At a book party celebrating Kinsey’s latest publication on gall wasps, he suggests to the dean of students the idea of offering an open-forum sex education course instead of the biased health education class currently taught. The proposal is approved but limited to teachers, graduate or senior students and those who are married. Subsequently, Kinsey teaches the popular sex course to a full auditorium.
