Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005), an American neo-noir black comedy crime film written and directed by Shane Black, follows the story of Harry Lockhart. After showing remorse in an audition for a botched burglary, Harry unexpectedly lands a screen test in New York City. Mistaken for method acting by casting director Dabney Shaw, he is then sent to Los Angeles for another screen test. At a party in LA, Harry reunites with his childhood crush Harmony Lane and meets ‘Gay’ Perry van Shrike, a private investigator hired to help him prepare for his screen test. Meanwhile, party host Harlan Dexter has recently settled a feud over his wife’s inheritance with his estranged daughter Veronica. During a stakeout at a cabin in Big Bear Lake, Perry and Harry witness a car being dumped into the lake. While attempting to rescue what they think is a living woman from the trunk, Perry accidentally shoots the corpse after breaking the lock.
They ultimately decide against reporting the incident, fearing it will implicate Harry in Veronica’s death. Believing Harry to be a private investigator, Harmony confides in him about her sister Jenna’s supposed suicide. However, when he discovers the corpse of Veronica, who has been identified as Jenna, in his bathroom and dumps it with Perry, he soon realizes that Jenna had used Harmony’s credit card to hire Perry. When Harry goes to confront Harmony about this discovery, she accidentally cuts off his finger while slamming the door in anger over his deception. At a party where Harmony is working, two men known as Mr. Frying Pan and Mr. Fire attack Harry in an attempt to stop his investigation. Both Harmony and Harry follow these men to Perry’s current stakeout location. While Harmony goes to warn Perry, leaving Harry sleeping in the car, Mr. Frying Pan is fatally injured by an armed food-cart operator during their scuffle.
