He also works sporadically on a celebrity porn website with his roommates who are constantly high. While celebrating her promotion, Alison crosses paths with Ben at a local club. They engage in a night of heavy drinking and end up having a one-night stand. However, due to a miscommunication, they do not use protection. The next morning, over breakfast, they realize they have little in common and go their separate ways, leaving Ben visibly distraught.
After eight weeks, Alison is struck with morning sickness while interviewing James Franco and realizes she might be pregnant. Despite taking multiple pregnancy tests, she is stunned to discover that she indeed is pregnant. She reaches out to Ben for the first time since their one-night stand to break the news. Initially brusque, he assures her of his support. Although he remains uncertain about parenthood, his father is elated at the prospect. Meanwhile, Alison’s mother urges her to consider an abortion, but she chooses to keep the baby. Eventually, Alison and Ben take a leap of faith in their relationship. As part of their efforts, Ben makes a marriage proposal with an empty ring box and vows to get her a ring one day.
