Kong: Skull Island (2017), directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, is an American monster film produced by Legendary Pictures and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It serves as a reboot of the King Kong franchise and the second installment in the MonsterVers. In 1944, two World War II fighter pilots – American Hank Marlow and Japanese Gunpei Ikari – parachute onto an island in the South Pacific after a dogfight. However, their close combat is interrupted by a giant ape. Almost three decades later, U.S. government agent Bill Randa recruits former British Special Air Service Captain James Conrad to lead an expedition to map out the newly-discovered Skull Island. They are accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Preston Packard and his team of soldiers.
Alongside the team of scientists, soldiers and adventurers embarking on an expedition to a mysterious, uncharted island in the Pacific, Mason Weaver joins them as an anti-war photographer with a belief that this may actually be a covert military operation. This diverse group finds themselves cut off from civilization as they enter the perilous territory of Kong, sparking a clash between mankind and the wild. While their original goal was discovery, it quickly turns into a fight for survival in an untamed paradise where humans are out of place.
