La Luna (2011)
The animated short film, La Luna (2011), marks Enrico Casarosa’s directorial debut. It follows a young boy named Bambino as he embarks on a midnight boat trip with his father and grandfather in Genoa, Italy. During the trip, Nonno gifts Bambino a cap similar to the ones they both wear. However, Papà and Nonno have different ideas on how Bambino should wear it – with Papà pulling it over his eyes and Nonno pushing it back on his head. As they anchor in the middle of the sea, Papà sets up a ladder for Bambino to climb so he can set an anchor on the full moon. Together, the three of them work to sweep fallen stars off the lunar surface.
Papà and Nonno have conflicting opinions on the most effective tool for the job: a pushbroom or besom broom. As they bicker, a colossal star falls onto the Moon, too large for any of them to handle. Bambino takes charge, tilting his hat in his preferred manner, and uses a hammer to break the star into smaller pieces. With each man using a different tool – Bambino opting for a rake – they sweep the debris aside. After completing their task, they make their way back to their boat and admire the now-crescent Moon, its radiance enhanced by their teamwork.
