Largo Winch (2008)

Largo Winch (2008) is a French action thriller film based on the Belgian comic book of the same name. In Hong Kong, Nerio Winch, the owner and majority shareholder of W-Group, is murdered by an unknown assailant on his yacht, the Neretva. The following day, the board of directors for W-Group meets with Ann Ferguson, Nerio’s trusted associate, to discuss the matter. It is revealed that Nerio had a secret son named Largo Winch who was raised by a French-Croatian family and kept hidden from everyone until his recent discovery. Skepticism arises among the members but they decide to bring Largo in to determine if he truly is Nerio’s heir. Meanwhile, Largo is in Brazil where he saves a young woman named Léa, an NGO worker who was being harassed by a local militia. While Largo is unconscious, Léa administers a sedative and departs. Upon waking, Largo finds himself in the custody of the militia and is later taken to prison.

However, his rescue comes from an unlikely source – Nerio’s former bodyguard Freddy, who was aware of his existence. Together, they travel to Hong Kong for Nerio’s funeral. Things take a turn when Largo overindulges in alcohol and publicly reveals his secret. The next thing he knows, he wakes up on a yacht with Nerio’s former butler informing him that Freddy had left him there. After arriving at the W-Group’s headquarters, Largo confidently presents himself to the board of directors. He impresses them by correctly identifying each member and demonstrating his knowledge of the company’s business ethics and stocks, solidifying his identity as Nerio’s son. But any celebration is cut short when Meyer, a senior employee, is murdered by an unknown gunman. With help from Stephan Marcus, Largo pursues the assassin but ultimately fails to capture him.
