In the drama film Last Days (2005), directed, produced, and written by Gus Van Sant, we witness a fictionalized portrayal of a musician’s final days, loosely based on Kurt Cobain. The central character, Blake, breaks out of a rehab facility and makes his way back home through the forest. After swimming through a lake and spending the night by a fire, he returns to his house and changes his clothes before wandering around with a shotgun in hand. Among his roommates – Scott, Luke, Asia, and Nicole – is Thadeus A. Thomas, who chats with him about advertising in the upcoming Yellow Pages book. Despite receiving a call from his record label urging him to continue touring with his band to fulfill their scheduled performances, Blake hangs up.

He then heads upstairs and falls asleep on the floor of one of the rooms. As Asia rises from slumber, she notices her friend Blake is dozing off just as the doorbell rings with two LDS missionaries. Scott and Luke answer the door and are approached by the missionaries discussing their church beliefs. Meanwhile, Blake changes into fresh attire and heads out to the shed while the missionaries depart. As Scott, Luke, Asia, and Nicole exit the house, Blake returns inside. Soon after, his pal Donovan and a private detective show up at the house in search of Blake. He waits outside until they finish their search before entering again. Once inside, he plays around with guitars and drums, creating loops with his vocals.
