He then makes his way to a billiard hall, where he comes across two of Rico’s men. In self-defense, Corey kills one and knocks out the other before taking their weaponry. Along the way, he encounters a police roadblock.
Later that same morning, another prisoner named Vogel manages to escape while being transported on a train from Marseille to Paris for interrogation by the well-respected Commissaire Mattei. As he evades his pursuers, including Mattei who is closely monitoring the manhunt and has set up roadblocks, Vogel comes across a roadside grill. Knowing what all the commotion is about, Corey stops at the grill and leaves his car boot unlocked. Seeking refuge, Vogel crosses a stream to throw off the dogs and hides in Corey’s car boot. Aware of Vogel’s presence and having been waiting for this moment, Corey drives into an open field and assures Vogel that he is now safe. However, things take a tense turn when Vogel points one of Corey’s guns at him.
