Leap Year (2010)
Leap Year (2010) is a romantic comedy that follows the journey of Boston real estate stager, Anna Brady. Frustrated by her boyfriend’s lack of a proposal after four years together, she decides to take matters into her own hands and travel to Dublin, where he’s attending a cardiology conference. However, due to bad weather, her plane is diverted to Cardiff and she must find another way to get to Ireland. She ends up in Dingle, a small seaside village, where she meets Declan O’Callaghan, the owner of the local pub. In need of money due to the threat of foreclosure on his pub, Declan agrees to drive her to Dublin for €500. During their journey, Anna reveals her plan to propose on February 29th, in accordance with the Irish tradition known as Bachelor’s Day. Declan finds this concept amusing and pokes fun at it along the way.
As cows obstruct the road, Anna exits the vehicle to chase them away. However, she steps in a cow pie and has to rest against the car while removing it from her shoe. This causes the car to roll downhill into a nearby stream. They then continue on foot until a van carrying three travellers offers them a ride. Despite Declan’s caution, Anna hands over her suitcase first. To her dismay, the van speeds off without her before she can enter. Eventually, they reach a pub along the way and coincidentally encounter the same travelers. A scuffle between Declan and them ensues as he takes back Anna’s bag. With no train arriving, they pass time at the pub and discuss which items they would take if their homes caught fire with only one minute to evacuate. Losing track of time, they miss their train and have no choice but to spend the night at a bed & breakfast in Tipperary.
