Legend of the Boneknapper Dragon (2010)

The 17 minute sequel short film, Legend of the Boneknapper Dragon (2010), is a follow-up to the feature film How to Train Your Dragon. Originally aired on television on October 14, 2010, on Cartoon Network, it was also released as a special feature on Blu-ray and double DVD editions of the original movie the next day. The story centers around Hiccup and his friends, who join their mentor Gobber on a mission to defeat the legendary Boneknapper Dragon. While about half of the film features traditional animation, it also delves into Gobber’s past and his encounters with the fearsome creature, revealing how he came to look as he does now.

In the small Viking village of Berk, tales of Gobber’s sworn enemy, the legendary Boneknapper Dragon, are met with skepticism. However, after his home is reduced to ashes, Gobber remains convinced that the elusive creature is to blame and sets out on a quest for vengeance. Despite doubters, Hiccup and their companions join Gobber on his journey. As they sail towards what they believe is the dragon’s territory, Gobber shares his ongoing rivalry with the beast in increasingly far-fetched retellings. But when their ship crashes onto an unknown island, all doubts about the dragon’s existence may soon be put to rest. Can our brave adventurers survive in this treacherous land and uncover the truth about their ferocious foe?
