Lethal Weapon (2016–2019), an American buddy cop action comedy-drama TV series, was created by Matt Miller and based on the popular film franchise of the same name by Shane Black. The show’s first two seasons featured Clayne Crawford as Martin Riggs and Damon Wayans as Roger Murtaugh, the mismatched detective partners who were also the lead characters in the films. Other characters in the series were inspired by those in the movies, such as Leo Getz, a good friend of Riggs and Murtaugh (originally portrayed by Joe Pesci). In May 2018, due to reported issues on set, Crawford was let go from his role, leading to his character’s death. In the following season, Seann William Scott joined the cast as a new character named Wesley Cole. The third season premiered on September 25, with Wayans departing from the show after filming ended in December 2018.

In the initial two seasons, Roger Murtaugh, an aging detective with a wife and three children, is teamed up with Martin Riggs, a young and unstable detective whose spouse and unborn child were recently killed. Despite the risks involved in Riggs’ reckless approach to catching criminals, the two manage to develop mutual respect and form a strong bond. In season two, following Riggs’ demise, Murtaugh goes through six months of depression. During this phase, he meets Wesley Cole who becomes his new friend. Cole is a former CIA operative with extensive experience and global exposure. As he adapts to living in Los Angeles, he teams up with Murtaugh for their new partnership.
