Life in a Year (2020)
Life in a Year (2020) is an American romantic drama film directed by Mitja Okorn, from a screenplay by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. Daryn, who has his sights set on Harvard thanks to his father Xavier, crosses paths with Isabelle at a rapper’s concert. The two are instantly drawn to each other and Daryn falls in love with her. However, their love is tested when Isabelle reveals she has cancer and limited time left. In an effort to make the most of their time together, Daryn creates a plan for them to experience an entire lifetime in just one year. As they spend more time together, Isabelle recognizes Daryn’s potential as a rapper and helps him create his first demo CD. But when Daryn introduces Isabelle to Xavier, he disapproves of her and uses the opportunity to criticize her integrity and warn his son against distractions, especially girls like Isabelle. Hurt and rejected, Isabelle leaves with her drag queen parental figure Phil while Daryn is left alone and depressed.
A few days after being shortlisted at Harvard, Daryn attends his interview accompanied by his father. However, when asked about his skills and abilities, Daryn’s thoughts are consumed by memories of Isabelle. This leads to a disappointing response that results in him leaving the interview early. Back at home, Daryn and his father argue, almost resulting in physical violence until his mother intervenes. Distraught over the conflict with his family, Daryn seeks comfort in Isabelle and apologizes for his behavior. In a bold move, he decides to leave town with her despite objections from his family. As they spend time together, Daryn takes Isabelle to surprise her mother one day. Unfortunately, her mother recognizes her but tells her to leave. Heartbroken and rejected, Isabelle asks Daryn to drive them away from the situation.
