Life’s Too Short (2011–2013) is a British mockumentary sitcom co-created and written by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. The show stars Warwick Davis as a fictionalized version of himself, while Gervais and Merchant make appearances in supporting roles as themselves. It first aired on BBC Two on 10 November 2011 and was later picked up by HBO for US distribution. However, in January 2013, it was announced that the series would conclude with a one-hour special to be released later that year. The special ultimately premiered on 30 March 2013 in the UK and on 5 July 2013 in the US.

The show’s inception can be traced back to when Davis collaborated with Gervais and Merchant during the second season of Extras, where he shared the screen with Daniel Radcliffe. According to Gervais, Davis has a knack for humor and tells captivating tales in real life. Merchant also credits him for contributing to the show’s concept. Afterward, Gervais and Merchant approached the BBC to pitch their idea of a show centered around a character inspired by Davis. In this program, Davis portrays a distorted version of himself as a conceited, arrogant, and manipulative owner of a talent agency for individuals with dwarfism. The plot follows his supposed redemption journey through a documentary as he strives to improve his career amidst a messy divorce and financial woes. Throughout, Davis constantly pesters Gervais and Merchant about job opportunities, much to their annoyance.
