Lisey's Story (2021)

Based on Stephen King’s 2006 novel of the same name, Lisey’s Story (2021) is an American psychological horror drama miniseries. It features Julianne Moore in the title role, with King as the writer, Pablo Larraín as the director, and J. J. Abrams as the producer. The series premiered on Apple TV+ on June 4, 2021, following Lisa “Lisey” Landon’s journey. Lisey is the widow of renowned fiction writer Scott Landon, who passed away two years prior to the events of the series. Still grieving her loss, she must also fend off individuals trying to obtain Scott’s unpublished manuscripts. While sorting through his belongings, she uncovers a treasure hunt left by Scott that forces her to confront suppressed memories of their marriage and his unusual abilities. However, while following this trail, she also gains a dangerous stalker who accuses her of selfishly withholding Scott’s genius from the world.

Two years after author Scott Landon’s passing, his widow Lisey continues to mourn and often has dreams of him. Before he died, Scott had planned a “bool hunt” for Lisey to embark on, with the first clue hidden on the silver shovel that she had used to save his life during an attack. Lisey’s older sister Amanda struggles with bouts of self-harm and slips into a near-catatonic state. The second clue for the bool hunt can be found in Amanda’s address book, which also holds the contact information for a nursing home where Scott had arranged for her to stay three years prior. Despite pressure from Dashmiel, a devoted fan of Scott’s literature, Lisey refuses to hand over her late husband’s unpublished manuscripts. In response, Dashmiel enlists the help of another fan, Jim Dooley, to persuade Lisey. Flashbacks reveal peculiar occurrences: Scott mysteriously disappears from his hospital room while water runs in the bathroom and he feeds Amanda water from his mouth to temporarily awaken her mind.
