Looper (2012) is an American sci-fi action-thriller film written and directed by Rian Johnson, with production by Ram Bergman and James D. Stern. In 2044, 25-year-old Joe works as a ‘looper’ for a Kansas City crime syndicate, assassinating their enemies who are sent back in time from the future of 2074. This is due to tracking systems that make disposing of bodies undetected nearly impossible. Abe, a man from the future, manages the loopers who kill and dispose of victims with concealed faces in exchange for silver bars. To conceal their ties to the syndicate, any loopers who survive until 2074 are sent back to be killed by their younger selves, known as ‘closing the loop’. The targets are identified by gold bars instead of silver, signaling the end of their contract.
Joe reluctantly hides his friend Seth in his apartment’s floor safe after Old Seth warns him of the Rainmaker’s plot to overthrow the five major bosses and close all loops. However, Abe’s threat to confiscate half of Joe’s saved silver prompts Joe to reveal Seth’s location. The elite ‘Gat Men’ capture Seth and leave an address on his arm, similar to the effects on Old Seth’s body. Kid Blue, one of the Gat Men, tracks down Seth at the specified address and kills him. Later, when Joe’s next target arrives, it turns out to be his older self with his face uncovered and hands unbound. In a twist of events, Old Joe knocks out his younger self and makes a run for it. Upon returning to his apartment, Joe finds that it has been ransacked by the Gat Men and gets into a fight with Kid Blue before falling off a fire escape and losing consciousness.
