Lou (2017)
An American computer-animated short film, Lou (2017), was written and directed by Dave Mullins and produced by Pixar. The lost-and-found box on the kindergarten playground becomes a home for Lou, a creature created from unclaimed items and named after the three missing letters on the box sign. After each recess, Lou gathers abandoned toys and items, placing them back in the box while subtly encouraging their owners to retrieve them. However, when a bully named J.J. begins taking toys from other children and storing them in his backpack, Lou becomes upset. In retaliation, he decides to take J.J.’s backpack when he is the last kid on the playground. Unfortunately, J.J. catches him in the act, leading to a chase where Lou constantly morphs into different shapes to avoid capture.
During the chase, Lou discovers that the name tag on J.J.’s underwear matches the one on an old plushie dog at the bottom of the box. This dog had been stolen from J.J. by a bigger kid years ago. Lou shows J.J. the toy, but refuses to give it back until J.J. returns all the other stolen items. At first, J.J. grudgingly returns the items but is surprised when a grateful girl gives him a hug. This encourages him to continue returning items and he even makes some new friends along the way. This motivates him to search for the owners of every item in the box. However, when he goes back to return the last item, he realizes that Lou is no longer there as all his parts have been claimed by their rightful owners.
