Luckiest Girl Alive (2022)
Luckiest Girl Alive (2022) is a mystery thriller film directed by Mike Barker and written by Jessica Knoll, based on her novel of the same name. In 2015, Tiffani “Ani” Fanelli seems to have it all – a successful career as an editor at a New York women’s magazine and a soon-to-be husband, Luke Harrison. However, when documentary director Aaron Wickersham approaches her about making a film about the school shooting she survived as a teenager, Ani declines. Meanwhile, Luke receives an offer to work in London and suggests that Ani can use the opportunity to pursue her own writing through an MFA program.
Despite her aspirations to work at The New York Times someday, she agrees to have dinner with a couple Luke knows. To their surprise, the husband turns out to be Ani’s former teacher, Andrew Larson. In flashbacks to 1999, Ani is shown joining the prestigious Brentley School and quickly befriending popular students such as Dean, Liam, and Peyton. She confides in Mr. Larson about what happened but refuses to tell her eccentric mother, Dina. Instead, she confides in her friend Arthur, who has also been a target of bullying by the same boys. As Ani’s past starts catching up with her, it begins to take a toll on her relationship with Luke.
