Made in America (1993)
The American comedy film, Made in America (1993), stars Whoopi Goldberg and Ted Danson. When Zora Matthews discovers she has a blood type that does not match her deceased father or mother Sarah, she confronts her mother. Sarah admits to using a sperm bank after her husband’s passing and specifically requesting for an intelligent black donor. Determined to uncover the truth, Zora enlists the help of her best friend Tea Cake to pretend to be a donor while she searches through the records at the sperm bank. After gaining access to the computer, Zora learns that her mother was matched with Halbert Jackson, whose social security number is revealed in the records.
At his lavish estate, Hal concludes an evening of passion with his young partner Stacy before heading off to work. As he drives out of the garage, Zora obstructs his path. She hops into his pickup truck and he departs for Jackson’s Motors. Upon seeing that Hal is Caucasian, she is taken aback. Hal is a flamboyant proprietor at his own establishment and is currently filming a commercial with a live bear. Zora interrupts and reveals herself as his daughter. However, Hal responds rudely and lacks any sign of compassion or understanding. Zora’s mother approaches him to address his behavior. While Zora and Tea Cake follow, Tea Cake becomes distracted by the female car salesperson.
