Man on a Ledge (2012)
Man on a Ledge (2012) is an American action thriller directed by Asger Leth. After checking into the Roosevelt Hotel, a man named Joe Walker makes his way to the 21st floor and steps out onto the ledge, seemingly prepared to end his life. Concerned bystanders alert the police, who send in Dante Marcus and Jack Dougherty to handle the situation. However, it is revealed that Walker is actually ex-policeman Nick Cassidy, who recently escaped from prison after being sentenced for stealing a diamond from businessman David Englander. Negotiator Lydia Mercer, still reeling from her failure to save a suicidal policeman, is called in to communicate with Nick. Through a shared cigarette, she manages to obtain his fingerprints which are later matched with those of Nick Cassidy.
Nick maintains his innocence and alleges that Englander, who suffered a financial loss due to a failed business venture, has falsely accused him as part of an insurance fraud scheme. Being prideful, Englander refused to sell the diamond and instead orchestrated the framing. Nick serves as a distraction for the authorities while his brother, Joey, and Joey’s partner, Angie, sneak into Englander’s vault nearby to retrieve the diamond and exonerate Nick. In order to communicate with Joey and Angie undetected, Cassidy cleverly uses double entendres while conversing with Mercer. Meanwhile, Dougherty exposes Nick’s true identity to Marcus, prompting Marcus to order his store’s security team to search the vault. Fortunately, Joey and Angie manage to evade them but are unable to locate the diamond.
