Margaret (2011) is a riveting American epic psychological drama written and directed by Kenneth Lonergan. In the bustling streets of Manhattan, 17-year-old student Lisa Cohen has an unexpected encounter with bus driver Gerald Maretti on the Upper West Side. A moment of distraction leads to a tragic accident as Gerald misses a red light, resulting in the death of pedestrian Monica Patterson. Overcome with guilt, Lisa initially tells police that the traffic signal was green but later changes her statement. As her life takes unexpected turns, including a flirtation with math teacher Aaron Caije and heated debates with her classmates about politics and terrorism, Lisa grapples with the consequences of that fateful day.

Lisa’s relationship with her actress mother has its ups and downs, with occasional arguments and Lisa’s mixed feelings towards her mother’s boyfriend, Ramon. When Lisa confronts Maretti about the accident, he initially acts like he can’t remember the details, but then admits that he remembers them but doesn’t think he did anything wrong. This causes Lisa to passionately push for his removal from the company. With the help of Monica’s best friend, Emily, and cousin, Abigail, Lisa ultimately takes legal action against the Metropolitan Transit Authority for wrongful death. She is seeking not only Maretti’s dismissal due to his involvement in two previous accidents, but also monetary compensation for Abigail as the victim’s next of kin.
