Marry Me (2022) is an American romantic comedy-drama directed by Kat Coiro, with a screenplay by John Rogers, Tami Sagher, and Harper Dill. The film follows pop superstar Kat Valdez, a well-known figure in the Latin community who has experienced two high-profile divorces. Despite this, she is planning to get married to her fiancé, Bastian, after their song “Marry Me” becomes a worldwide hit. They have even arranged for their wedding ceremony to be streamed during one of Kat’s concerts. Meanwhile, recently divorced math teacher Charlie Gilbert is dragged along to the concert by his friend Parker and his daughter Lou, who has been less than enthusiastic lately. However, just as Kat is ready to walk down the aisle, news breaks that Bastian has been unfaithful with her assistant Tyra – and it’s all over the Page Six gossip website. Her manager tries to keep it from her, but she insists on seeing for herself and he reluctantly shows her his phone. Distraught and facing an uncertain future, Kat looks out into the crowd and sees Charlie holding a sign asking her to marry him. In a moment of impulsiveness, she agrees – much to everyone’s surprise.
Nervous, Charlie takes the stage and marries Kat in front of a global audience. Afterwards, Kat avoids Bastian and Tyra and departs with Charlie by her side. The two exchange awkward pleasantries before Kat leaves with a heavy heart. The media buzzes with speculation about Kat’s emotional well-being. In response to the intense attention, she decides to stay married to Charlie for a brief period to spin the situation positively. Reluctantly, he agrees, not wanting their personal lives to be disrupted. Charlie reluctantly obliges to media obligations, although he is uneasy with the constant scrutiny. As they spend time away from the public eye and her team, they gradually grow closer. Kat also meets Charlie’s students and Lou, eventually being asked as his date for an upcoming school dance. That night, they share a kiss and become intimate. Over the next few weeks, they embark on a genuine romantic relationship together. With Kat’s encouragement, Charlie prepares his math team for an upcoming competition. She also helps Lou overcome her stage fright by teaching her how to dance and distract herself from anxiety.
