Match Point (2005)
Match Point (2005), a psychological thriller by Woody Allen, follows the story of recently retired Irish tennis pro Chris Wilton. He lands a job as an instructor at a prestigious London club and befriends wealthy student Tom Hewett. Meanwhile, Tom’s sister Chloe becomes infatuated with Chris and they start dating. At a family gathering, Chris meets Tom’s fiancée Nola Rice from America and they are immediately drawn to each other. With Chloe’s help, Chris secures a job in one of her father Alec’s companies and is welcomed into the family circle. However, during an argument over Nola’s career choice at a thunderstorm-filled gathering, Nola storms off in anger. Feeling guilty for his attraction to her, Chris chases after her and they end up having sex in a wheat field.
Nola later views this as an accident due to her guilt towards Chloe. Chris desires a lasting fling, but ends up marrying Chloe and splitting with Nola. Sadly, she doesn’t conceive right away. He coincidentally runs into her at Tate Modern and gains her number to rekindle their affair. While hanging out with his in-laws, Nola calls with unexpected news of a pregnancy. In a state of panic, he implores her to terminate it, but she refuses and proposes they raise the child together. This causes him to distance himself from Chloe and she becomes suspicious of his actions, which he denies. Nola pressures him to leave his wife; feeling trapped, he resorts to deceit with both women.
