Maverick (1957 — 1962)
Created by Roy Huggins, Maverick (1957–1962) is an American Western television series with comedic overtones that aired on ABC from September 22, 1957 to July 8, 1962. The show follows the adventures of brothers Bret and Bart Maverick, both skilled poker players from Texas who travel through the rugged 19th-century American frontier by horseback, stagecoach, and riverboat. Throughout the five seasons, James Garner and Jack Kelly take turns as the lead character, but occasionally team up for episodes where they play as a duo. No matter where their travels take them, the Maverick brothers always seem to find themselves in dangerous situations involving money and women.
While the Mavericks often joked about being motivated by money and avoiding hard work, they frequently faced situations where they had to choose between financial gain and moral principles. However, their integrity always prevailed since both Mavericks had strong ethics. They did, however, have no qualms about trying to outwit dishonest or corrupt individuals. After Garner’s departure from the show in the third season due to a legal dispute, Roger Moore joined the cast as cousin Beau Maverick. As usual, the two main Mavericks took turns leading episodes, occasionally teaming up together.
