MaXXXine (2024)

MaXXXine (2024), the latest addition to Ti West’s X film series, is an American slasher movie set in 1985 Los Angeles during the infamous Night Stalker murders. Maxine Minx, famous for her work in adult films, auditions for the lead role in The Puritan II and lands it despite her unconventional background. Following the audition, she mentions it to her friends Leon and Amber James, who invites her to a party in the Hollywood Hills. However, Maxine declines as she heads to her second job at a live peep show. While working, she encounters a mysterious leather-clad figure who seems disturbed by her performance. Later on, she meets fellow adult entertainer Tabby Martin who also invites her to the same party that Amber mentioned earlier, but once again Maxine turns down the invitation.

The leather-clad figure leaves a VHS tape of a porn film from six years ago which Maxine and her now-deceased friends attempted to make. After viewing the disturbing footage, she enlists a confused Leon to investigate its source. Meanwhile, over in the Hollywood Hills, Amber and Tabby meet their demise and are marked with Satanic symbols. Maxine receives a summons from private investigator John Labat, who warns her of the consequences of not meeting his employer’s demands. She is directed to a specific location on Starlight Drive that evening. LAPD detectives Williams and Torres interrogate Maxine about her involvement with Tabby and Amber’s deaths, but she remains uncooperative. Later on, she spots Labat following her and aggressively defends herself, instructing him to keep his distance.
