The American dystopian science fiction film, Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018), was directed by Wes Ball and written by T.S. Nowlin, based on James Dashner’s 2011 novel of the same name. The remaining free ‘Gladers’ – Thomas, Newt, and Frypan – team up with the Right Arm resistance in an attempt to rescue other Immunes from WCKD’s train. Their mission takes a dangerous turn when they realize their friend Minho, who was captured by WCKD, is on a separate carriage headed to the organization’s base, known as the ‘Last City’. Despite being warned by Vince, leader of the Right Arm, the trio sets out to save Minho from torture at WCKD’s hands in their pursuit for a cure for the virus. Along the way, they are ambushed by Cranks – humans infected with the Flare – but are rescued by Jorge and Brenda who join them on their journey.
The group reaches the heavily fortified wall of the Last City, with crowds of people outside protesting to be let in. As WCKD opens fire on the protesters, a crew in gas masks captures the group and takes them to a hideout. Among the members is Gally, who surprisingly survived being speared by Minho. He leads them to meet Lawrence, leader of the rebellion, who helps them enter the city. Gally then gives Thomas and Newt a tour of the city and points out Teresa before offering to get them into WCKD headquarters. It is during this time that Newt reveals he has been infected. In order to find a cure, Thomas and Gally capture Teresa. In the headquarters, Paige informs Janson that the virus is now airborne and there may be no way to stop it, even if they hunted down every single one of them. Despondent, Paige considers giving up.
