Megamind (2010) is an American animated superhero comedy film from DreamWorks Animation and PDI/DreamWorks, distributed by Paramount Pictures. The main characters, supervillain Megamind and the superhero Metro Man, are both aliens who arrived on Earth as infants after their planets were consumed by a black hole. Despite arriving in the same city at the same time, their upbringings are vastly different – Metro Man is raised in luxury while Megamind grows up in prison. Attending the same school as his nemesis, Megamind faces constant bullying until he decides to embrace his destiny as a supervillain. This sparks a fierce rivalry between him and Metro Man that continues into adulthood, with Megamind frequently attempting (and failing) to take over the city with the help of his fish-like sidekick Minion.
On the day of the grand opening of the new Metro Man Museum, Megamind escapes prison and kidnaps reporter Roxanne Ritchi. He then lures Metro Man to an abandoned observatory, where he collapses due to the copper-lined roof weakening his powers. With a sun-powered death ray, Megamind is able to finally defeat Metro Man. As a result, he takes over the city and embarks on a crime spree. However, not having a hero to oppose him leaves Megamind feeling aimless and despondent. In an attempt to forget about Metro Man, Megamind decides to blow up the museum but encounters Roxanne there. He quickly dehydrates the museum’s curator, Bernard, into a small cube. Using hologram technology to disguise himself as Bernard, Megamind speaks with Roxanne who provides inspiration for his plan to use Metro Man’s DNA in creating a new superhero.
