Memoirs of an Invisible Man (1992) is an American comedy-drama film directed by John Carpenter. Nick Halloway, a stock analyst known for avoiding responsibility and connections with others, frequents his beloved Academy Club where he meets Alice Monroe, a TV documentarian, through his friend George Talbot. Their immediate chemistry leads to a steamy encounter in the ladies’ room and plans to meet for lunch on Friday. The next day, still feeling the effects of the previous night’s festivities, Nick attends a meeting at Magnascopic Laboratories where he quickly becomes bored and decides to take a nap. A mishap involving spilled coffee causes chaos and results in the entire building being evacuated. In a strange turn of events, not only does the building seem to explode without leaving any debris behind but it also renders Nick invisible along with much of the surrounding area.

When CIA operative David Jenkins arrives, he notices Nick’s condition and they transfer him to an ambulance. During this time, the agents make lighthearted remarks about Nick being studied by scientists for the rest of his life. However, in a state of fear, Nick runs away. Jenkins convinces his superior Warren Singleton not to inform CIA headquarters so that they can capture Nick and take credit for their discovery, potentially making him the perfect covert agent. Nick seeks refuge at the Academy Club where he finds Dr. Wachs and asks for assistance in reversing his condition. Wachs agrees, but Jenkins ultimately takes matters into his own hands and kills him to protect the secret of Nick’s invisibility.
