Memory (2022) is an American action thriller film helmed by Martin Campbell and written by Dario Scardapane. Adapted from De Zaak Alzheimer by Jef Geeraerts, it serves as a remake of its Belgian predecessor, The Alzheimer Case. The story follows contract killer Alex Lewis, who lives in Mexico and battles early onset Alzheimer’s while working for Davana Sealman. His latest assignment takes him to El Paso, Texas to eliminate Ellis Van Camp, a builder at the Texas Central Processing Facility. During his time in El Paso, Alex discovers that his brother is residing in a nursing home due to severe Alzheimer’s disease. Meanwhile, FBI Special Agent Vincent Serra goes undercover to apprehend “Papa Leon,” who has been involved in sex trafficking and has taken his 13-year-old daughter, Beatriz, hostage. After killing Papa Leon in self-defense, Vincent brings Beatriz to the facility but Child Protective Services later grants her a protection visa.
In the meantime, Alex eliminates Ellis and pilfers flash drives from his safe, which hold incriminating footage of Davana’s son, Randy – something that deeply rattles him. Despite being ordered to take out Beatriz, Alex refuses on moral grounds since he draws the line at harming children. He then tracks down Davana’s lawyer, William Borden, whom he intimidates. However, before Alex can act on his plans for revenge against Davana, another hitman named Mauricio kills Beatriz instead. This enrages Alex and fuels his desire for retaliation. Later on, after helping a woman fend off an intoxicated man at a bar and sleeping with her, she is shot dead by Mauricio – who also tries to kill Alex in the process.
