Men in Black International (2019)

Men in Black: International (2019) is an American sci-fi action comedy film directed by F. Gary Gray and scripted by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. It belongs to the Men in Black franchise, but stands alone as a sequel within the same universe. Unlike previous films, it does not feature Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones as protagonists. In 1996 Brooklyn, Molly Wright witnesses her parents being neuralyzed by MIB agents after they encounter an alien at home. Molly helps the extraterrestrial escape and avoids being neuralyzed herself. Over two decades later, Molly’s obsessive pursuit of alien life leads her to track down an alien landing and tail MIB agents to their headquarters in New York City. Upon being caught, Molly impresses Agent O with her ability to bypass neuralyzation and argues that her unwavering dedication makes her a perfect fit for the job. With no other obligations besides searching for the agency, Molly is granted probationary agent status as ‘Agent M’ and is stationed at the London branch.

In London, M meets High T, the head of the branch, and Agent H. It’s revealed that they defended against an attack by the Hive at the Eiffel Tower in 2016, using a wormhole from their original migration to Earth. Since then, H has been neglecting his tasks and relies on High T’s protection to keep his job. M arranges to assist H in his meeting with their mutual acquaintance, alien royalty Vungus the Ugly. However, during their outing with Vungus, they are approached by enigmatic Twins who are able to manipulate energy. Tragically, Vungus is fatally wounded by them but before he dies he gives M a peculiar crystal and warns that H has changed since their last encounter and shouldn’t be trusted.
