It is based on the novel of the same name by Chad Kultgen, and focuses on online addiction. The movie follows a group of high school teenagers and their parents as they navigate the ways in which the internet has affected their relationships, communication, self-image, and love lives. Social issues such as video game culture, anorexia, infidelity, fame hunting, and access to inappropriate content are explored. As each character’s relationships are tested, we see the different paths they choose – some tragic, some hopeful – as it becomes clear that no one is immune to this societal shift brought on by technology.
Taking place in a small Texan town, this movie follows the lives of various adolescents and their guardians as they navigate the challenges of today’s tech-obsessed society. The prevalent use of technology has impacted their communication abilities, self-perception, and interpersonal connections, adding to the usual social obstacles. Among them are Donald and Helen Truby, a couple struggling with sexual dissatisfaction. While Helen turns to extramarital affairs through the online platform Ashley Madison, Donald seeks comfort from escorts on another site. By chance, Donald stumbles upon his wife’s activity on Ashley Madison and confronts her during one of her rendezvous. The following day, after acknowledging their mistakes in judgment, they agree to overlook their indiscretions.
