An animated comedy film, Minions (2015), was produced by Illumination Entertainment and distributed by Universal Pictures. These small, yellow pill-shaped creatures have been around since the beginning of time, evolving from single-celled organisms into servants for history’s most sinister rulers. However, their loyalty towards their masters backfires as they accidentally cause their demise; rolling a Tyrannosaurus into a volcano, allowing a caveman to be attacked by a bear, crushing a Pharaoh and his subjects with a pyramid, and exposing Count Dracula to sunlight. The Minions are forced into hiding after shooting a cannon at Napoleon in Russia and find themselves aimless without someone to serve. In response, three Minions; Kevin, Stuart and Bob set out on a journey to find a new master for their fellow Minions to serve.
In 1968, the trio ventured to New York City and stayed at a department store for the night. During their stay, they stumbled upon a hidden commercial advertising Villain-Con, an Orlando convention for villains. The following day, they hitchhiked with the Nelson family, known for their thieving ways. At the convention, they met Scarlet Overkill, an infamous female supervillain who hired them unexpectedly and brought them to her home in London. They contacted the other Minions to join them on their mission. Scarlet’s plan was to steal the Imperial State Crown from Queen Elizabeth II and promised to reward them if they succeeded. However, she also threatened to kill them if they failed. To assist in the heist, Scarlet’s husband Herb provided them with useful inventions. Despite nearly getting caught while breaking into the Tower of London, they managed to continue with their plan.
