Mirage (2018)

Mirage (2018), also known as Durante la tormenta in Spanish, is a mystery-drama film written and directed by Oriol Paulo. It takes place during the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and follows the story of a boy named Nico who witnesses a fight scene while recording a video in his house during an intense 72-hour electrical storm. In the midst of the chaos, he discovers the body of Ms. Weiss, wife of his neighbor Angel Prieto, and sees Prieto holding a knife. As Nico tries to flee, he tragically gets hit by a passing car. Mr. Prieto is later arrested with the murder weapon as Nico loses his life in the accident. In present day 2014, married couple Vera Roy and David Ortiz move into Nico’s former home with their daughter Gloria. While exploring a storage room, they come across an old TV set and video recorder with tapes inside. As another electrical storm rages outside, they watch one of Nico’s videos on the TV and are transported to that same night in 1989 when they witness live news footage taking place during Nico’s recording.

At dinner, the group shares the story with their neighbors Aitor and Clara. Vera and David are shocked to learn about Nico’s death. Later that night, Vera is surprised to see Nico on TV and realizes she can communicate with him. Initially scared, she tries to warn him about the accident. The next morning, Vera wakes up to a new reality where no one else remembers the previous events. David is now married to another woman and Gloria does not exist. Disturbed by this, Vera comes up with a plan to fix what she has done wrong by interacting with Nico once again. She goes to the police and shares her story, which is met with skepticism. Inspector Leira offers his help but requires some evidence before he can believe her. Together, they visit an author who wrote about a similar case of someone communicating with a person from the future through television.
