Modern Family (2009 — 2020)
Modern Family (2009–2020) is an American sitcom that aired on ABC for 11 seasons, from September 23, 2009 to April 8, 2020. Created by Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan, the show follows the lives of three diverse family set-ups in suburban Los Angeles, all connected through their patriarch, Jay Pritchett. While highly acclaimed by critics during its earlier seasons, its reception became more mixed as it progressed. However, the final season received positive reviews and the finale episode was watched by 7.37 million viewers upon its first run. A retrospective documentary that aired before the final episode also garnered an audience of 6.72 million. The show was a consistent winner at award shows and received numerous Emmy awards and nominations. It even took home the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy in 2011.
Jay Pritchett leads a unique family. His second marriage to Gloria has given him a fresh start, but old habits die hard. Adjusting to Gloria’s vibrant energy and her son Manny’s precociousness is a challenge for Jay. Despite some cultural differences and misunderstandings, there are many heartwarming moments along the way. Jay’s daughter Claire and her husband Phil strive for an open and honest relationship with their three children. However, this can be challenging with Haley’s fast-paced teenage lifestyle, Alex’s intellect, and Luke’s forgetfulness. Phil may be young at heart, but his good intentions always shine through. Claire is the anchor, doing her utmost to maintain a well-managed household and avoid her children experiencing the rebellious upbringing she had. Meanwhile, her brother Mitchell and his partner Cameron are focused on raising their adopted daughter Lily. The two men have contrasting personalities, with Cameron being quite outgoing and perhaps a bit theatrical, while Mitchell is more reserved. Yet, their different styles complement each other as they both embrace their roles as devoted fathers in building their own loving family.
