Monsters, Inc. (2001) is an animated comedy created by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. In this unique world where monsters reside, the city of Monstropolis relies on the screams of human children for their main source of energy. At Monsters, Incorporated, highly skilled ‘scarers’ venture into the human world through portals located in children’s bedroom closets to collect screams. This job is known to be perilous as humans are believed to be poisonous and even capable of killing a monster upon physical contact. However, energy production has been on the decline due to a decrease in fear among children. The company’s CEO, Henry J. Waternoose III, is determined to prevent their downfall. One evening after work, top scarer James P. ‘Sulley’ Sullivan discovers an active door left at his rival Randall Boggs’ station.

After discovering a young human girl in the factory, Sulley and his roommate Mike try to return her to Monstropolis, but she runs off. Chaos ensues as other monsters spot her and the CDA arrives. Needing to keep her hidden, Sulley realizes that humans are not toxic and their laughter actually produces more energy than screams. The next day at work, they disguise her as a monster while Mike wants to send her through any door, Sulley insists on finding her real one. As they search for her door, Sulley grows fond of the girl and dubs her ‘Boo’. Unfortunately, Randall has been planning to capture children with his new invention and accidentally captures Mike instead. Sulley rescues him and together they set out to inform Waternoose about Randall’s scheme.
